Saint Mary's Lake,Glacier Natl Park
I was watching a PBS show on hiking the Divide tonight and when they hit Glacier they showed a photo like this which brought back a flood of memories.When we were kids we had in our finished basement at our first house a whole wall with a picture of Saint Mary's Lake we had gotten from my Uncle at Kodak.It was one of the prints they used when Kodak had these huge pics displayed in Grand Central or Penn Station I forget which one.I would spend hours staring at that wall size pic of Glacier and when in 1965 we went west I got to stand on the spot as a ten year old wearing my new white Cowboy hat(My brothers all picked Black ones) and stare at the same picture live.It was breathtaking.That day we went for a walk on a lakeside trail and met a couple with two Husky pups named Yukon and Nuggett.Five years later when we got a Husky pup mix we named him Yukon of course.

hooray for uncles at Kodak! What a cool thing to have in your basement.
The other huge pic we had was of a Pacific atoll but that one we just unrolled from the tube it was in a few times.I know when we sold the house in 1969 the Glacier pic stayed on the wall but I don't know whatever happened to the other pic.
Even cooler to get to see the view in situ, as it were. I think photos were better when there were fewer of them, or at least fewer of them printed. I get extremely tired of 40 views of my dear ones doing essentially the same thing.
Carol I know what you mean.But the good thing with the new tecnology is we can take those old photos and slides and put them on CD'S.My brother recently did it with a bunch of pics from our glory days at friends weddings and such.My father always took slides in those days so I look forward to putting some of our old camping trips on CD somewhere down the road.
